The Second Tibetan General Meeting in Dharamsala PDF Stampa E-mail

Representative of Tibetans from various parts of the world have gathered for the second Tibetan General meeting in Dharamsala, among the representative the President of Tibetan Community In Italy, Ms. Kalsang Dolker is also present for the meeting.

Dharamsala, May 21 – 418 Tibetans from various parts of the world gathered today at the TCV school auditorium here for the second Tibetan General Body Meeting which had been called by the Tibetan Parliament in exile after the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama announced his decision on March 10 this year to devolve his “political authority” to an elected leadership.

 



The meeting is expected to discuss, among other things, an inclusion of a newPreamble and Article 1 into the Tibetan Charter and 39 other articles drafted by the Charter Amendment Drafting Committee headed by the incumbent Tibetan Prime Minister Samdhong Rinpoche. The committee has also amended 39 related articles from the Tibetan Charter including Article 19 related to the executive powers of the Dalai Lama. The high-level special committee was constituted during the last session of the Tibetan Parliament with the task to find ways to amend the Tibetan constitution to facilitate the smooth transition of Dalai Lama's political power to an elected leadership.

Kalon Tripa visits Mainpat Phendheling Tibetan Settlement PDF Stampa E-mail

DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong Rinpoche paid a day-long visit to Phendeling Tibetan settlement in Mainpat on 9 May, during which he spoke to settlers on the importance of education, democracy and sustainability of settlement among other issues.

Addressing a gathering of Tibetan settlers, Kalon Tripa explained to them about amendments to be made in the Charter of Tibetans in exile after His Holiness the Dalai Lama's decision to devolve his political authority to the democratically elected Tibetan leadership."

He spoke in detail about the great efforts made by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in educating the Tibetans in both traditional and modern education in exile in the last fifty years. He told the Tibetans to reinvigorate their efforts in making further progress in the field of education.

Tibetan PM elect visits TYC hunger strikers, urges end to fast PDF Stampa E-mail

Dharamsala, May 13 - Lobsang Sangay, the prime minister elect of the Tibetan government-in-exile, met Thursday with three executive members of the Tibetan Youth Congress who are on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi to protest against a clampdown by Chinese authorities at the Kirti monastery in Tibet's Ngaba County.

The Tibetan Youth Congress, which says the aim of the hunger strike – now in its 18th day – is to demand the immediate withdrawal of the Chinese security forces from the monastery and the unconditional release of all political prisoners, including those recently arrested in Ngaba, which has been at the centre of political dissent since March this year. The TYC is also demanding that a Tibetan Youth Congress delegation is granted access to Tibet to assess the situation of political prisoners there.

French Parliament's Tibet Group Raises Concern Over Repression in Ngaba PDF Stampa E-mail

PARIS: Supporting His Holiness the Dalai Lama's appeal to the international community over the Chinese government's repression on Kirti monastery in Tibet, the Tibet Working Group in the French Parliament had lodged an urgent representation to the French foreign minister and the Chinese ambassador in Paris.

The Tibet Working Group had drew the attention of the two officials on the deteriorating situation borne out of military blockade of Kirti monastery, which left 2 Tibetans dead and over 300 monks detained.

In an appeal letter to foreign minister Mr Alan Juppe on 3 May, Tibet Working Group's president Lionnel Luca said, “Our country cannot remain indifferent to the situation of the monks of Kirti monastery and the Tibetan population of the area. I would, therefore, like to know the position of France on this situation.”

University of Minnesota to confer honorary doctorate on His Holiness the Dalai Lama PDF Stampa E-mail

MINNESOTA: On his arrival at the residence of the University of Minnesota’s President for a welcome reception on 6 May, members of the Tibetan community presented ceremonial welcome dances and offered Droso Chema. Tibetan community President Tsewang Ngodup introduced the board members and the guests.



At the reception, the university thanked His Holiness for being an inspiration to all of them and conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for his presence.

Director May Jo Kereitzer said, “There is no one appropriate for this honor (honorary doctorate) than His Holiness the Dalai Lama whose vision for peace and non-violence inspired thousands around the world.”
