To all social media friends and sympathizers of H.H. the Dalai Lama and Tibet.

The Tibetan community in Italy feels the need to clarify the video clip connected to H.H. the Dalai Lama kissing an Indian boy during a gathering in honor of His Holiness in the courtyard of the main temple of Dharamsala in India about two months ago, surrounded by the press, video cameras and especially the cameras of some Indian national channels. This cropped fraction of the video aired by some irresponsible Indian media has been widely shared without verifying the circumstance of a people's fact, scope and custom. Careless media followers ignore who they might harm and negatively impact millions of people around the world who find solace, peace and learn the essence of love and compassion that his Holiness tirelessly teaches daily to make the world better.

A little boy in the audience accompanied by his parents asked if he could embrace His Holiness and was promptly allowed to approach him to fulfill his request. His Holiness, as always, hugs and kisses him affectionately and sticks out his tongue with a badly pronounced sentence in English. It is a gesture rooted in our (backward) custom of cordiality, of obedience, and frequently used with a derisive and witty intent. We fully realize how unusual it may be for strangers of Tibetan culture and tradition. Any negative comments and misinterpretation on this video clip would harm not only Tibetan sentiments but millions of Peace lovers, for whom we ask everyone not to be negatively influenced, but to defend themselves with a wiser view.

His Holiness has always had a joyful, carefree and playful demeanor, he enjoys teasing those who meet him, with politicians, religious persons, scholars, ordinary visitors and especially with children whom he teases with his childish innocence deeply rooted in the principle of human nature of love and compassion. His Holiness if the circumstances permits, embraces everyone without any barriers of caste, creed and social status, even voluntarily with so called “untouchable” in Indian society. There are hundreds of photos and videos of His Holiness touching others' foreheads with his own, pulling beard of others, waving the tip of his nose, kisses and hugs that have broken down social barriers by raising the human values that are missing in this turbulent world made of extreme competitiveness and hatred.

His honorability will never be affected by a petty video supposed to gain attraction and propaganda regardless of hidden intentions. We question these media, and those pretend to be educated with the so-called modern culture and with sexuality nailed to their heads, feigning to have evolved according to the thought of today's civilization in defense of the weak and children merit to be blamed as they mislead the audience, abuse the code of decency and dynamism of the fact by reporting the incident, creating a sensational case without minimal knowledge of how and where it happened, and in what context. These same media and misleading Youtubers have never given information and raised viral on the 159 self-immolated Tibetans, not even a hint.

We appeal to our friends not to be deceived by misinformation, by any comments and by the judgment of the malefactors, but to be at peace without prejudices and bad thoughts. Indeed, to be happy for the existence of a man who teaches only love and compassion as his religion and fights for the harmony of all faiths and considers all human beings as brothers and sisters.
